General Membership Meeting – November 3, 2011

The General Membership meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm at the Round Table Pizza Restaurant on Pleasant Grove Blvd. in Roseville by Incoming Chair, Vivian Mevorah.

Vivian announced that after no one else responded to the email that Christa Cobb sent out asking for anyone else that might be interested in running for the Chairperson’s position for the Foothills Chapter, that she volunteered to be the Chair for 2012. She said that we will hold general membership meetings every other month on the first Thursday of each month in 2012, starting with February. Each meeting will also include a speaker for the evening to be announced in notices sent out to the membership.

Nina Clark has again graciously offered the use of her beautiful home for the Foothills Chapter Annual Holiday Party in Loomis on December 8th. We will again bring toys for the Toys for Tots program. Time and address of Nina’s home will be sent out by email to the members.

The officers that are continuing their positions with the Foothills Chapter for 2012 are:  Peggy McGaw as Treasurer, and Krista Christian as Secretary.

The following people have volunteered to be committee chairpersons for 2012:
Christine Hendricks – Awards
Michele Ng – Insurance/Grants
Becky Hayes – Media Coordinator
Newsletter Editor – Jim Shewbridge
Volunteer Coordinator – Joan Shewbridge
Nancy Fisher – What’s New in our Community
Nanci Yundt – Meeting Program Coordinator/Welcoming New Members

We still need the following positions to be filled:
Co-Chair
2 show secretaries
Hospitality Coordinator at Events
Advertising/Sponsorship Coordinator
Historian
Telephone Coordinator

Vivian discussed the Gallery Page on our website. All members are encouraged to supply Becky with pictures that she can upload onto our site of themselves with their horses.

We will be coming out with advertising rates soon for both our newsletter and our website. We will also be working on events for the coming year.

Vivian adjourned the meeting, and introduced our speaker, Kristin Weilepp, DVM, who presented a CD audio/video presentation (created by the Glass Horse and loaned to us from Colleen Reid) on Colic in horses. Kristin’s presentation was excellent, and very well-received by those in attendance. Many questions were asked and answered, and all felt that they learned a lot after this lecture.

I. Announcements

The chapter chair position has been relinquished by Christa Cobb as she has recently
moved to an area outside of the Foothill Chapter region and is likely to join the
Chapter for that jurisdiction. Vivian Mevorah was voted by the General Membership
into the Chapter Chair position. We are still looking for a Co-Chair and an advertising
person.

II. Discussion

Vivian welcomed members and guests to the General Meeting and Holiday Party. The
events calendar is on the website. We have an advertising page, a gallery page, and
many activities in store. The newsletter will be published quarterly. The first
newsletter will be published on February 15th and the deadline for submissions will be
February 1st.

The Adult Amateur clinic is on September 21st through the 22nd and the clinician is
Jan Ebeling. The requirement for an entry into the AA drawing is four hours of
volunteer work for the chapter. The winners’ names for the AA clinic will be
submitted to CDS by July 1st.

The perpetual trophy will be awarded to the highest score during a Foothills show for
amateur riders who ride from Training up to FEI level. The chapter will also award
prizes for the high point Jr. /Young Rider, Vintage Rider, and Open rider. Nancy
Steuck is the committee chair for schooling shows and Mari Naten is the committee
chair for rated shows and clinics. The chapter discussed possible venues for shows.
The chapter discussed fundraising ideas. Nina and Colleen presented the idea of
accepting donations from members in exchange for the chance to receive paid
entries in a recognized show. Several event coordinators have agreed to donate
classes to the chapter. During the party, donations and drawings occurred for 2
shows: one in February and one in March. RAAC and CDI shows will not be included
in the donation and drawing for gifted classes.

Vivian will obtain the list of CDS members who have designated Foothills as their
chapter preference and will update Constant Contact. Currently, we do not have a
method to pay or donate money online, but CDS does not have restrictions on
setting up a shopping cart or Paypal on the chapter website.
The chapter will be selling sponsorship on both primary and secondary pages. The
board has set fees for advertising.

Vivian discussed the freestyle clinic which will be held from March 22nd to the 24th.
The clinic will be hosted by the chapter and coordinated by Laura Beeman. The
freestyle clinic will help riders in either designing a freestyle or in riding and training
using rhythm. The Granite Bay Multipurpose room will be used for the pre-clinic
seminar and potluck. Clinic price is $150 for 2 days.
The chapter will host an awards dinner in April as a catered dinner at a multipurpose
hall. The chapter is also planning a silent auction as a fundraiser event. We will need
donations for the auction. All members and the general public will be welcomed to
attend. Prizes do not need to be horse related and Vivian has a sample template that
can be handed to prospective sponsors. Donations can include riding lessons, stallion
breedings, winery tours, and bed and breakfast excursions. We will have information
on line and donations are tax deductable.
Meeting adjourned: 8:27 P.M.

FOOTHILLS CHAPTER MEETING, FEB 2, 2012
The first General Meeting of the Foothills Chapter for 2012 was held at the Round Table Pizza Restaurant in Roseville. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Chair, Vivian Mevorah.

  • Scheduled speaker Susan Trebess fell ill and asked to be rescheduled for another meeting.
  • USDF has requested that the FH Chapter sponsor an Instructor Certification Series. Michelle Ng was asked to be project chair. She is to determine if she would like to take on this project.
  • Treasurer, Peggy McGaw, was asked by Chair, Vivian Mevorah, to also be the Co-Chair for the Foothills Chapter. Peggy accepted the position.
  • We made money on the Schooling Show, possibly as much as $1300, but Peggy is still in the process of reconciling all of the receipts with Show Secretary, Mary Naten.
  • Do we want to have another show, and if so, when and where?  The general consensus was to wait for this fall and see if the facility on McCourtney Road in Lincoln will have a court by that time.
  • Nina Clark donated goods for our Chapter’s Silent Auction Basket for the CDS convention. All businesses that donate to the chapter will receive acknowledgement on the “Sponsor’s Page” on our website.
  • There will be no silent auction at the Awards dinner in April because there is not enough time to get the sponsors. But, we will plan to hold a silent auction in the fall, and start planning for this activity now, so that we will have plenty of time to make it a great event.
  • The April Awards dinner will be on April 12. We will try to get Cabo’s Restaurant again in Granite Bay. We will raffle off Show Entry Packages that Nina a Colleen were able to acquire at the Awards Banquet dinner.  We will sell the raffle tickets for $10 each, or 3 for $25.00. Free dinner for members only.
  • The Freestyle Clinic is March 23-25: we have 8 riders listed so far, but there might still be space available if someone else is interested.  The Friday Evening Lecture will be at the Granite Bay Library. We will have a Potluck at 6, and the lecture will be from 7 to 9 pm.  We will need help setting up and tearing down.  There is $20 audit fee if one brings a dish for the potluck on Friday night, or $30 if they do not bring a dish. This fee includes auditing over the weekend. Weekend (both days) audit only, no lecture, is $25.
  • Newsletter advertising: We have been receiving business advertisements for both our newsletter and website. Mary King is our first primary page advertiser on our website.
  • Do we want to purchase a Fort Lewis Saddle Pad and have a saddle fitting, Chiropractor and Laser Treatment Clinic.  Laura Worsley has volunteered to investigate and organize this clinic.  No date set at this time.
  • Vivian reported on the CDS Symposium.
  • Michele Ng let us know that Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in Oakdale would like to have an open house and have members come down to inspect their facility. Those present felt that it would be too difficult to organize a chapter event so far away from us, and suggested that they advertise their facility in our newsletter.

April 12th General Membership Meeting and Awards Banquet

The Foothills Chapter Annual Awards Banquet was held on April 12, 2012 at Cabo’s Restaurant in Granite Bay. Approximately 37 people attended.

A short meeting was held before those who received awards were announced.

Chairperson Vivian Mevorah announced that the Adult Amateur Clinic clinician has been changed from Jan Ebeling to Rachel Saavedra, and that those members who have a minimum of 4 hours of volunteer time for the Foothills Chapter, will have the opportunity to have their name entered into the drawing to participate in the clinic in September. The drawing will be held on June 30, 2012. All interested members were asked to make sure that they contacted Vivian to let her know to add their name to the drawing list.

The Treasurer’s Report was given to Vivian by our Treasurer, Peggy McGaw, and the following information was provided, but not presented at the meeting: Net profits from the Freestyle Clinic amounted to $414.98 and $1358.74 profit from our Schooling Show. We have received $470 from Advertisements on our website and in our newsletter, $300 from our Sponsorships, and $110 from our fund raisers. We have spent $60 for our newsletter and membership communications (Constant Contact), $5 on postage, $30.05 on meetings, and $175.22 on miscellaneous expenses. We have a balance in our account of $5,533.

Michele Ng presented information about the Instructor/Trainer Certification Program that the Foothills Chapter Board voted to sponsor at the last Board meeting in March. The monthly program will start in October 2012, and finish in March 2013. Mari Naten, of the Pacific Equestrian Center, has donated the use of her facility for this event. Michele said that there are 6 slots available, and she already has 5 of the slots reserved. She encouraged members to submit an application, if interested, for this 6th slot. More information will be posted on our website at www.foothillscds.org.
Vivian announced that the Board is thinking of having a summer “Member Appreciation” party, and that we would have more details as this event is planned.

Vivian also announced that the Board is tentatively planning a Horse Show/Silent Auction/Wine and Cheese Tasting/Tack Swap to be held the end of September at Pacific Equestrian Center. This will be a BIG event, so we will be asking for volunteers as time goes on.

With the meeting over, Vivian announced those in attendance that had received CDS awards for the 2011 show season, and all those present picked up their engraved plates. We will try to reach all of those that had received awards that were not able to attend the banquet in order to send them their plates/certificates.

We then proceeded to the coupon drawing for “Gift Classes” that were donated by the following show venues:  Christiane Noelting, Golden State Dressage, Mar Val Dressage, and Pacific Equestrian Center. Following is a listing of the winners of individual show days: Alejandro Salazar, Jessica Naten, Donna Quisenberry, Nailia/Zakir Abdoukadyrov, Alexis Martin-Vegue, Michele Ng, Crystal Alatalo, Deb Ross, Peggy McGaw, Mark Schuerman, Sandy Savage, Nicole Campbell, Barbara Fleming, Marie/Sarah McCrink, Laura Beeman, Laura Worsley, and Vivian Mevorah.
