State of the Chapter 2008
|
We had a very exciting 2007, with 9 board meetings and 4 one star shows, we were busy. Our first event was our April awards dinner held at a Pizza Restaurant. We put on a "Do and Don'ts" fashion show for horse shows, schooling shows and clinics. Not only did we have live participants willing to model what they might wear for a clinic, but, we also had a contest for all the members to participate in. We handed out pictures collected from magazines, and photos from shows. They were to write down everything they could find in the photos that weren't appropriated to wear to a clinic, schooling or rated show. Prizes where handed out to the highest winner of correct answers. The most fun was seeing our members model the DON'T outfits. And, believe you me I've seen it being worn. Next was our general meeting held at Equine Sports Complex in Carmichael, Ca. The owner, who is a member, purchased a mechanical horse simulator. She supplied pizzas, and Foothills supplied everything else. Everybody was given a ticket to have the opportunity to ride the simulator while Colleen Reid gave them a short lesson on him. It was fascinating to watch as rider’s seats improved within minutes of watching themselves not only from full length mirrors right in front of them, but, also full length mirrors on the sides of them. Colleen standing on a foot stool right next to the rider while they where either trotting or cantering, could help and adjust their position immediately. We also had a raffle drawing for a package of 3 lessons on the mechanical horse, and raised $300.00 for Foothills. We held 4 one star shows. The first and last were slow, but we made up for them on the other 2. What was really fun is, we had our husbands come with our bbq's and cook hamburgers and hotdogs for all the volunteers and we also sold them to the riders. It was great to see the riders stay around for the lunch and mingle with each other. We sold out every show with the food and made a profit. Our goal was to reward our board members with a bonus at the end of the year if we did well on our shows. So, we all hit it hard. We had a sponsor for the first time. They supplied embroidered coolers to each high point winner at each show. Not only did we have the coolers, but we also had beautiful crystal wine glasses or tumblers to each first place winner. At our December Christmas Party I handed out Christmas cards with a year-end bonus for each board member, to be used for clinics, shows, or whatever they wished. Everybody was pretty excited. It was great to fully reward these hard working volunteers. Jeremy Steinberg was our clinician for last year. We held 6 clinics, half at PEC and half at Equine Sports Complex. He is so popular we have a waiting list. Our Christmas party was again at Kim Fredericks beautiful home in Los Lagos, Ca. We had over 60 people attend. We start it with year-end awards. We gave out crystal glass weights which where engraved with the riders name and horse's name. We have 7 total awards to give out each year. So, not only did the riders in our shows received coolers, and wine glasses, but they where also eligible to win high point year end awards. Of course we had the gift exchange to look forward to. All in all we had a great profitable year. Blythe Lehmann Foothills Chapter Chair
